I'm having such difficutly with this animation's background. Flat plane or none at all? I really don't like these colors, they don't have enough contrast.

the hands video is beautiful! really excellent!
yes, i agree to the comments on the racial issue. that would be the one revision worth thinking through.
as for back ground, i think it gives depth and context to the image in the second piece. you might want to include deeper shadows (the book still feel floating) and that might solve also the uniformity of the textured plane.
